Not too long ago, there was a big flood in Kerala, India. On the 15 of October of 2021, heavy rain started creating an overflow, cutting trees, villages and, consequently creating a massive flood 3 days later. The overflow cut trees and villages and created the flood on the 18 of October of 2021. Unfortunately 26 people, including 5 who were children.
A flood is a natural disaster that occurs in many parts of the world, including Peru. Some countries in the world with constant flooding are Suriname, the Netherlands, and Monaco. Floods usually occur in places in which it rains for long periods of time. Another cause is when the snow melts fast and when a storm comes with a natural disaster (hurricane, tsunami, etc).
Now that we know what a flood is, I am going to tell you what happened in Kerala, India in more detail. As we know, the rain started on the 15 of October of 2021 causing the flood which was made 3 days later on the 18 of October of 2021. In this natural disaster, lives were unfortunately lost, villages were damaged, and great disruption was caused. The 2 places that were affected the most were Kottayam and Idukki, as they had really treacherous rainfall.
There is some information we need to know in order to prepare in case of a flood. First of all, investigate if you are at risk of being in a flood. See if you live in a risky zone or traveling to one, even work in a place that had to pass a flood. Now that you are informed, prepare yourself. When a flood happens, listen to the radio or get to know all the latest news or updates. If you have any furniture outside, make sure to bring it inside. You could pack an emergency kit in case something happens. Furthermore, you could waterproof your house. Remember to keep safe.
