The Met Gala is an event that is based on the exhibition of fashion annually, from the Institute of Dress in New York, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This event calls on various celebrities known for their different talents around the world as singers, actors, and more. The goal for this red carpet is to raise funds for the Costume Institute.
Last year, the celebrities that co-chaired the Met Gala were actor Timothee Chalamet, singer Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman, and tennis player Naomi Osaka. The main chairs of the event were Anna Wintour, lead Vogue editor, Adam Mosseri as the head of social media and Tom Ford as the designer. Last year, unlike previous years, the gala was celebrated on September 13 with the theme of “American Fashion”.
However, this year, the Met Gala event is back to its regular date, the first Monday in May, and will be hosted on May 2nd. The theme for this year’s Met is “In America: An anthology of fashion” and the dress code for this event will be “Gilded Glamor”, so it will focus on the period between 1870-1900 in America, a time of economic growth, and social transformation.
In 2020, due to the start of the pandemic, the Met Gala exhibition was canceled and it was replaced with the exhibition in 2021 which joined with the End of New York fashion week.
Moving on with the dressing of the participants in 2021, Timothee Chalamet went with a Haider Ackermann jacket, Rick Owens pants, and white Converse sneakers. On the other hand, Billie Eilish appeared in a 4-meter long princess dress with a melon color. Also, Amanda Gorman went with another dress that included more than 3 million hand-sewn crystals as a metaphor for a starry night sky and a diamond tiara. However, Naomi Osaka went with a blue, purple, and aqua swirl print with long ruffled sleeves and a wide red sash.
