Gotitas, the rising CAS project

Updated: Sep 23, 2022

Founded in 2021 by Gabriel Oursoff, IB student and prefect of the XXXV class, Gotitas is a promising new CAS project at Newton which is looking to make an impactful change. He, alongside a team of contributors, is looking for opportunities to improve quality of living.

Gotita's main objective is to contribute to low-resource communities by donating water purifiers. These provide quality water without needing to pay for gas and electricity for it.“Our vision is that every human being deserves access to inherent basic resources such as potable water.” -Gotitas’ Instagram

Gotitas produces their water purifiers using plastic buckets and water purifying units - referred to as candles. They get one bucket on top of the other with the candle in between, where water gets purified. It does so by a series of methods such as filtration, activated carbon, and colloidal silver - effectively producing clean and healthy water, ready for human consumption.

In June, team leader Oursoff, and team member Gabriel Boza visited the community of Ampliación Cedros de Manchay. Its population has suffered from scarce economic resources for a significant period of time. Gotitas met the members of the community and distributed flyers for them to understand the mission and meaning behind this project. Oursoff expressed how, “It's nice because you see people in situations that are very different from yours and you realize that the help you give can help their quality of life and actually make a change.”-Gabriel Oursoff (17/06/22)

In order for this goal to be achieved, they are planning a series of fundraising activities, so much so that Oursoff will meet Headmaster Rothman in order to evaluate possibilities. They have a vision like no other, supporting their idea with a clear solution to the problem. All that's left is motivating the Newton Students to go out and make change themselves. As more of these powerful CAS projects begin to develop I feel relief that we have such kind and creative minds within our student body.
