The United States Open Tennis Championships is a hard court tennis tournament and the modern version of one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, the US national championship for which men's singles and doubles were first played in August 1881. The 2021 US open was the 141st edition of tennis’ Us Open and the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. It took place from August 30th to September 12th and was held on outdoor courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.
This event was sponsored by prestigious brands such as; American Express, Chase, Emirates, J.P Morgan, Evian, Polo, Rolex, IBM, IHG. It was broadcasted by ESPN. Prizes ranged from $75,000- $2,500,000 for singles and from $7,800-$660,000 for doubles.
This event followed COVID- 19 requirements in order to facilitate compliance with the NYC executive orders. Proof of at least 1 dose of receiving a COVID-19 vaccine was needed for all fans over 12, face masks were recommended indoors, and hand sanitizing stations were placed all around the place.
The tournament was divided into categories, each category remaining in standard 128-person format. It consisted of both men’s and women’s singles, double draws, and mixed doubles. There were also singles and doubles events for players under 18 and wheelchairs.
