On Sunday, April 4th, an electrifying night took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas thanks to the ceremony’s favorites, Olivia Rodrigo and BTS. If unfortunately, you missed their telecast by perhaps falling asleep, don't worry. Honestly, it was the case for many. The 64th edition of the Grammy Awards caused several disagreements, tears, and happiness. Amongst so many awards, it was practically impossible to keep the nerves under control, especially after the two exceptional current musical figures on the music scene turned this effusive gala more relevant. Firstly the young Olivia Rodrigo, who has been breaking records at such a young age. Known as "the brunette girl" in her hit Drivers License, she won three important awards. And in second place, the currently global record-breakers, BTS, a popular South Korean group that continuously sweeps the music charts. Although the latter didn’t receive the music academy awards, we will review their outstanding presence.
Well, get ready to observe success accompanied by these eight artists! Starting with Olivia Rodrigo, this 19-year-old woman was nominated a couple of months ago in seven different Grammy categories. Despite being nominated along with renowned artists like Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, and Ariana Grande, the singer enjoyed the fruits of her talent after winning the categories of Best Solo Pop Performance, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Vocal Album. Moreover, before her nightly hits, she performed her first single, Drivers License, on the colossal Las Vegas stage for the first time. The audience was delighted with such a youthful show, “Olivia Rodrigo deserves to be the main character.”. So massive was the charm of Rodrigo's aura that she was invited to share some seconds during the seven K-pop stars' performance. Additionally, during her speech, Olivia captivated the audience, displaying a humble attitude when she declared "This is my biggest dream come true..." were some words that she conveyed to the audience with a noticeable nervousness. Besides, she thanked not once, not twice, but six times the people who have supported her since the beginning of her musical career.
Moving on with the creators of the Billboard-Hot, Butter, despite their trip to Las Vegas was originally not scheduled for the Grammys (but for their mini-tour, PTD On Stage), these South Korean sensations performed their first live performance at the biggest awards show in the industry. With their world's biggest-selling song nominated for Best pop duo/group performance, BTS initiated their entrance on the red carpet, where their leader, RM, announced, "We prepared a new stage special performance, so it's going to be amazing.", thus raising everyone's expectations. These were fulfilled after their themed performance based on the concept of Men in Black, where even an entrance from the ceiling was included, literally! And if that wasn't enough, laser beams, outfit changes, along with a new dance break stole the attention of the entire MGM Grand Garden Arena. Although they didn't win their nominated category, both fans and artists agreed that BTS highly deserved an academy award, but, “BTS Deserves A Grammy, But Do The Grammys Deserve BTS?”. Still, the idols didn't leave empty-handed as they took the opportunity to interact with diverse singers including Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Silk'n Sonic, Meghan The Stallion, John Legend, and more.
We can’t disagree about this Grammy Edition being a dazzling night. Not only have we seen BTS shine on Sunday, but the authors of 'Dynamite' also continue to leave their mark on music industry records, despite criticism about their homeland. Music lovers can't deny feeling their feet moving when listening to "Smooth like butter..." on global radios, so we hope to witness these Asian phenomenons again at the 65th Grammy Awards, in this case with nominations from their upcoming new album. Before we leave, let's not forget our sensational pop star, Olivia, who managed to conclude the gala hand-filled. It's impossible to deny that "Sour" didn't dominate 2021 regardless of its author's young age, so, Grammys, in this case, you didn't miss the target.
