In recent days, the newspapers and newscasts around the world have been talking about the worrying situation that is being experienced thanks to the Delta Variant of Covid-19. The delta variant is due to the Covid-19 mutation. This alters the spike protein that characterizes it (the external part of the virus) and allows it to enter, like a key, to the human cell. Its first appearance was in India, the virus is becoming much more dangerous and the delta variant is a clear example of this. 55 to 60 cases have been detected of the new Delta variant in 11 different states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh and is still being studied for its transmissibility, virulence, and vaccine escape characteristics. Meanwhile, the Indian panel of virus experts, the SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium of India, found that the said variant is 40-60% more congenial than the original strain and is currently the reason for most of the infections in the country. The government has already warned that Covid-19 cases in India may increase.
As the world feels the nervousness of Covid-19 due to emerging strains, the World Health Organization (WHO) official said on Monday that among all these strains, the Delta variant had reached more than 100 countries. The WHO director for Southeast Asia, told the ANI news agency that the way the Delta variant spreads is that it will soon become the most dominant COVID-19 strain globally. This is thanks to the power it has to be able to infect a person much faster, which makes it very contagious. Thanks to this, the number of Covid cases will increase as the days go by.
To conclude, the delta variant of Covid-19 is worrisome since this variant attacks the cells of the body with greater intensity, making it also more contagious than the previous variant Although, not much is known about it yet what we can do is stay home safe and sound to not spread this virus and prevent it from increasing its strength.
